Standards in e-learning

Standards are important because they allow us to harmonise items and systems for inter operability. Without standards we would waste a lot of time and money developing products and services that addressed a particluar rather than general need. In eLearning we need standards to protect our investments and enable widespread use.

For those interested in a fuller exposition of the use of the word standard below are some of its connotations:

STANDARD

Something, such as a practice or a product, that is widely recognized or employed, especially because of its excellence.

Widely recognized or employed as a model of authority or excellence: a standard reference work.
